The Game of Life is the best known example of a cellular automaton. It was created around 1970 by John Conway, a British mathematician.

While most implementations transition from one generation to the next in a single step, this version does its updates in two phases when the size of the cells is large enough to allow it. In the first phase, it shows the cells that are dying or being born, then completes the update to the next level in the second phase.

While the game is running you can check out some of the other apps in the App Store via the ads.
